Our Mission
At Sound Made Different (SMD), our mission is to develop innovative products for sound and vibration control for industry and military and take them to market. Our capabilities include modeling and simulation for design and prototyping; and manufacturing of our patented panel designs supporting industry, military, healthcare, and residential markets such as HVAC.
Modeling & Simulation
COMSOL Multiphysics has been extensively used for acoustics modeling for phenomena like sound propagation, sound-structure interactions, and room acoustics. An active headrest design integrated in an army litter for soldier rescue aboard a UH-60 Blackhawk supporting US Army MEDEVAC and CASEVAC operations is shown on the right.
Acoustic Meta Material Panel System For Attenuating Sound, (Patent Pending: 18/042,215)
Acoustic Meta Materials are a recently developed class of passive acoustic materials with superior sound absorption, particularly at low frequencies. SMD developed a custom solution for a furnace for a major HVAC customer and fabricated 5000 kits.
Active headrest design for hospital environments
Modeling & Simulation was used to design an optimized shape for an i-Pillow for reducing noise by 10dBA-15dBA at patient’s ears in hospital environments. A novel arrangement of the active sources and passive shielding was found which vastly improved the overall active performance. The same design was successfully flight tested in a rotorcraft.
ANC Device for dive helmet
Numerical finite element models of a Kirby Morgan dive helmet were developed and used to successfully predict the performance of an active noise control system to reduce interior helmet noise tones at 300 Hz and 1000 Hz.
